In the morning when I rise
In the morning when I rise
In the morning when I rise
Give me Jesus.

Morning coffee
Morning pages
Morning after
The morning of
Early morning
First thing in the morning

I love mornings. The day opens up and possibilities are
endless. I have a list – or not. I have coffee with God’s word and meditate on
His goodness.
But it wasn’t always that way.
I remember sleeping in, hugging the pillow, not wanting to
face life:
-
That summer after a very tough year at college
-
That summer when my boy friend broke up with me
and crushed me emotionally
-
Those many many days when the children needed
me, all day, and night too, and I desperately wanted a break from the constant,
non-stop responsibility that terrified me
I would stay in bed until I heard the voices or crying of my
children. It was wonderful and devastating at the same time. The wonderful
feeling of having the bed all to myself and a few minutes, maybe an hour, of
time to doze. Then the devasting reality roaring in on my solitude, diapers,
breakfast, school, cleaning, fights, chores …
-
It's different now. I have mornings with Jesus, quiet time
to read God’s precious words and pray for others. I still have responsibilities
I would rather not have to deal with, but I do them because I’ve learned to
depend on God for the strength and also the Want To.
But, still, give me Jesus.
I am a morning lover as well. Early bird....etc. Your post brought many memories to mind this morning!
ReplyDeleteYour words ring true, I remember those days rushing around and when possible, savoring the morning quiet.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how He changes us into morning people :) May we desire Him in the morning even more than we desire our coffee.
ReplyDeleteYes, just give me Jesus - whether the days are full of needy blessings or quiet and reflective.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blog. I loved it.

In the eastern sky today
ReplyDeleteI saw Mercury race the sun
and I really loved the way
that the day had just begun,
with this tiny point of light
shining 'gainst the the breaking dawn,
final beacon of the night;
catch it, friend, before it's gone!
Mercury's just rock, I know,
surface temp that will melt lead,
but in seeing it's a glow
better than a nice warm bed,
for its sun-blasted devastation
is yet a part of God's creation.
